Social media is an ever-shifting landscape to navigate as an artist. Where is the best virtual space in which to express my creative process, to show the result of my labour, to share my thoughts, and to network? One social media supersedes the other unexpectedly. It is a power struggle online. How can I anticipate what will last and what will reach people? I compete in a sea of social media: some have withered in use, like MySpace; the website has functionality problems and is hard to update; and Blogspot has become the place of choice for words, images, and inspirations – but for how long? In the end social media – intensely brilliant, essential, at some point abandoned for some other trendy space – has become a lively extension of my artistic process.
