Diane
Farris has been awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal.
The medals commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Her Majesty's
reign as Queen of Canada.
Farris's medal was awarded
in recognition of her years spent in volunteer service to
the Vancouver community and for the exposure, support and
encouragement of artists at the onset of their carreers. Since
1963, Farris has served on Executive & Advisory Boards of
numerous arts organizations including: Vancouver Ballet Society;
Ballet British Columbia; Judith Marcuse Dance Co; Emily Carr
Institute of Art and Design Foundation Board; Morris and Helen
Belkin Art Gallery, U.B.C.; Vancouver Civic Theatre Starwalk
Committee; Vancouver Cultural Alliance; British Columbia Arts
Board and the Vancouver Sculpture Acquisition Society. Prior
to that time she was a dancer and performer in Theatre Under
the Stars, Vancouver Opera, Vancouver International Festival
and various CBC productions.
The Diane Farris Gallery
has involved itself in the charitable world by hosting fundraising
events for W.I.S.H. Drop-in Centre for Women, Vancouver Opera,
Vancouver Symphony, Vancouver Ballet Society, British Columbia
Children's Hospital, various Breast Cancer and AIDS Fundraising
Events, LEAF, Save the Children; C.A.R.E. Canada; New Music
Society, Grey Owl Trust, B.C. Brain Injury Agency, Tibet House
and Amnesty International to mention a few.
