Douglas Coupland graduated from the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in 1984 with the famous "Young Romantics" Douglas Coupland, Graham Gillmore, Angela Grossmann, Attila Richard Lukacs and Derek Root. Together they formed "Future Bold". Coupland soon became an internationally established artists and author with more than 20 books to his credit.

Douglas Coupland is a brilliant cultural commentator whose name, in 2009, continues to increase in stature with his ground-breaking work in publishing, TV, film, broadcasting and print. In 1999, after a decade of working in other media, he returned to his visual arts practice as well.

His ‘Canada Pictures’ are a series of classically inspired and memorable still-life photographs composed of objects uniquely Canadian — hockey pucks, Captain Crunch cereal, Canadian bacon, Robin Hood flour, Gumby, a birch bark canoe, an Inukshuk, Labatt's beer and Old Dutch potato chips among them. In 2004, the pictures were featured as part of Canada House, an international traveling exhibition.
