Born in Calgary in 1978, Wil Murray currently lives and works in the Hochelaga/ Maisonneuve borough of Montreal.
He studied at the Alberta College of Art and Design before moving to Vancouver to start a studio practice.
Propelled by a studio fire that destroyed all of the paintings at his Pender Street studio in Vancouver, Murrayl moved to Montreal in 2004.
In September 2008, Murray received an honourable mention in the 10th annual RBC Canadian Painting Competition, the largest of its kind in Canada. His painting, Sexe Maniac Maniac Maniac Maniac Maniac, was honoured with a $15,000 prize.
He was short-listed for the RBC Painting Prize in 2005 and his work was recently chosen for publication in Carte Blanche, Vol. 2: Painting, Magenta Foundation, to be released 2008.
A former member of the Loop Gallery in Toronto, Murray is represented in Canada by the Diane Farris Gallery, Vancouver and the Patrick Mikhail Gallery, Ottawa. His work is included in collections across Canada and the United States.
