For CAFKA 03, Probing Into the Distance, I applied 4 large-scale photographic images to the plywood construction hoarding across the street from Kitchener City Hall. On the other side of the hoarding is a big empty space, enclosed by blank walls. The photographs depict fragmented views of suburban gardens and backyards, visible through gaps and holes in barriers separating public and private space in the city. These images act like windows onto views that may suggest a kind of paradise, offering passers-by a way to temporarily claim this civic space through their memories and imaginations.
