New Landscapes
February 1 - 24, 2007
Opening February 1, 6-8 pm
Kathryn Jacobi’s most recent body of work, New Landscapes,
marks a shift in focus from portraits and still life to landscape
abstractions. Her small canvases explore the effects of evening
light upon the landscape and hearken to the cloudscapes of the
19th century English painter J.M.W. Turner.
Jacobi states, “My new group of imaginary landscapes has
allowed me to contemplate and interpret the exterior world around
me in a new way. They are more an articulation of feeling than
of structure. They celebrate chance and accident, and I have
purposely kept them simple, loose, and fresh.”
Kathryn Jacobi divides her time between Santa Monica, California
and Sechelt, BC. Her paintings and drawings have been exhibited
in museums, universities, and galleries in Berlin, Denmark,
Madrid, Toronto and Vancouver, as well as throughout the United
States.
Solo exhibitions include such prestigious galleries as the Kunst
pa Kalvo in Jutland Denmark; the Fresno Art Museum in California;
Judische Gallery, Berlin; the Jan Baum Gallery, Los Angeles;
and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. A consistently productive
artist, Jacobi has exhibited with the Diane Farris Gallery in
Vancouver since 1993.
In addition to New Landscapes at the Diane Farris Gallery,
Kathryn is also presenting a show of new paintings called Music
at the Sidney and Gertrude Zack Gallery, Jewish Community Centre,
Vancouver BC from January 25 to March 4, 2007.
