Amy Huestis was born in Moscow, Idaho,
USA, in 1971. Her family later moved to Washington State and,
in 1983, immigrated to Vancouver, BC.
In 1992, after completing a two-year fine arts program at Langara
College in Vancouver, Huestis moved to Montreal to attend Concordia
University where she received her BFA in 1995.
Huestis then spent four years Northern British Columbia where
she was profoundly affected by the light and mood of the deep
forests and rivers and the life and the art of the First Nations
community. In 1999, she returned to Montreal to participate
in the vibrant art scene that she had experienced as a student.
In her studio in Montreal’s historic St-Henri district,
Huestis paints, draws and creates intaglio prints.
Her recent work includes references to 18th Century pastoral
paintings. Also a skilled classical musician with two well-used
pianos in her studio, Huestis’ musicality informs her
lyrical visual lexicon.
Her paintings have been exhibited across Canada. |
