My current work explores the pastoral:
the naturalistic and lyrical placement of figures in a landscape.
The paintings and drawings are created using a limited palette
of colour, gestural line, and modulated tonality.
The viewer is engaged by a suggested rather than described modeling,
and a sense of unity created by the defused patterning of light
and dark throughout the painting.
The lyrical treatment of the subject matter and the use of ambient
light and luminosity in the painting creates an overall sense
of empathy between the figures, the landscape and the viewer.
