Through the magic of external transformation, I was able to explore an increasingly potent part of my identity . . . my sexuality.

Burlesque was a yearning because of what it celebrates to me, a sexuality that is captivating and empowered, yet with an inherent playfulness that prevents it from taking itself too seriously.

I have always admired the psyche of women wrestlers. The motivation and determination it must take . . .
Mentally Emotionally Physically . . to get there.
I am drawn to the dramatics of wrestling. The whole showman- ship aspect . . .
Beauty Strength and Sexiness . . all rolled into one. I feel it is “the complete package”.

Deep in the heart of me lies the soul of a cowboy who is wild and free and not PC

. . . .a Calamity Jane, who is a mud spattered, shoot from the hip femme, who feuds, falls in love and sings from the highest hills.

I have been given a gift, a gift to express myself as a great dancer, if only for a short time.

The ability to express yourself physically and spiritually in such a graceful, yet powerful, way shows to me that physical limitations, age or lack of opportunity fortunately do not have to dampen the imagination.

When I was a little girl I had a small obsession and an enormous belief in fairies. I read every book, examined every picture and listened to every story that had any relation to the magical creatures. They always looked free, graceful and naturally beautiful. The tooth fairy probably sparked my interest. I would write question-filled notes and leave them beside my teeth under my pillow. When they were gone along with my teeth in the morning, I assumed she was so busy she didn’t have time to write a reply. But that did not stop me. I would leave little bowls of the sweetest foods I could find in the kitchen, because of course fairies love sweets, outside for a lucky fairy to find and enjoy daintily. What inspires me about fairies is how in touch they are with nature. Their connection with the natural world is deep and admirable. They are true to themselves and helpful to every creature in need. Isn’t that how we all should be?

I consulted the mirror I brought back to your studio and read off what I wrote from my reflection. The truth is we see what we want to see and these finished words spoke back to me. I think that I was born with a Princessa attitude that, vague and nebulous as it may seem, will likely follow my rose-colored path until the innocence becomes the shroud of my final resting place. Beyond that becomes a place where I never actually leave, which I just float surreal and drift ethereal, still searching for the perfect elusive kingdom. Back in the real world outside of me, I take care of other people’s (artists’, designers’ and Corporate suits’) photographic realities. If everyone only knew how alive fantasy (looking at life, death and everything conscious in between) exists in my personal perceptions. Being the indulged daughter of a Third Concubine who surpasses all mothers and molded by the divine Sister Gertrude of Saint Francis Xavier school, I can believe whatever I damn well please.

PENNY
As the celebrated hoochy-coochy queen and every woman’s dream of absolute freedom, May West, said in her last interview, “It’s a man’s world, with men making all the rules that suit them best”.  This is still true today despite the progress we have made. So, who doesn’t dream of some times making the rules? From childhood, boys always seemed to me to have more fun.  Who would want to play at Wendy, “mothering the Lost Boys properly” when you could play at being Peter Pan, fighting, having adventures for ever and ever? Even the lure of Tinkerbell and dressing up in fairy clothes could not compare to that! So while banging one’s head on glass ceilings and just occasionally breaking through, I dream of it sometimes being just a little easier. Just another female fantasy.

CHARLENE
I was married once, a long time ago. Even before I took my vows, I had my doubts. Something was missing. He was not my soul mate. My deepest desire is to be a bride again, married to the man of my dreams, in love and in sync; the man I will step into Eternity with. I wrote a poem to him, called “Husband”. You touch me deeper than passion. I feel so light, so pure, so cleaned out. Channels open to love at last! Mind fixed to you. We meet. We merge – To form a finer being.

ROXANNE
All everyone wants is to be loved. As children we learn, through trial and error, what behaviors generate the most love and recognition. The conclusion I drew was to be sweet and, above all, non-threatening. In later years, I came to realize that the judgments I held against brash narcissistic and domineering women were really my shadow selves screaming to come out. How liberating to give recognition to all of me.

LIN

From when I was very little I felt I really didn’t belong here.  I was from another planet . . . and I had a warrior to protect me!I told my secret to my mother when I was 7 . . . her reaction led me to believe that my secret could not be told and so my warrior cloaked her planet to keep it safe and private . . . Over the years I have learned more of her world . . . the matriarchal lineage that produced warriors and queens, the history, religion and philosophy, of the 3 moons, of fate, hope and despair. My warrior queen fights on fiercely, avenging the innocent and at war with the monstrous evils that threaten her world.

In my fantasy life I am drawn to the beauty, intelligence and passion of the courtesan and her place in history. In fact, the older I get the more I believe that the courtesan is not just a role for a woman as in past times, but also for a woman today . . . muse, partner, lover, the courtesan seduces and inspires!
