Philodendron Ikebana – 2002
   Dale Chihuly
   approximately eleven inches in height
   retired

Chihuly's Ikebana Series emulates the subtle and intensely stylized art of Japanese flower arranging. This the first of the Ikebana Series to be available as a Studio Edition. A single elongated stem with yellow leaf cascades gracefully out of a beautiful blue vase, composing elegant contours. Surface treatment for both the leaf and the vase includes a gold leaf overlay with colored glass called "jimmies" added for dimension and texture. This elegant Chihuly Ikebana, measuring approximately eleven inches in height, is handblown and signed by the artist.

Reminiscent of its Japanese namesake, Philodendron Ikebana exudes a sublime, architectural quality that is eternally modern.

This 2002 Studio Edition is accompanied by the newly released book "Chihuly Gardens & Glass": a 192-page, full-color publication of Chihuly's exhibit at Garfield Park Conservatory and other outdoor installations.

Tiger Lily Seaform Pair – 2002
   Dale Chihuly
  approximately 10 x 10 x 5 inches
  sold out

"People for centuries have been fascinated with glass—it's the most magical of materials," says Dale Chihuly, whose glass sculptures have redefined conventions in form and the limits of molten glass. The improvisations that shape Chihuly's organic and free-flowing Seaform Series require split-second decisions and a fully mastered understanding of the medium's dependence on specific heat and gravity.

Tiger Lily Seaform Pair represents the animated biomorphic quality inherent in this magnificent series. The fiery red and orange patterning of this two-part piece reflects the startling color palette one might encounter in tropical waters. The artwork, signed by the artist, measures approximately 10 x 10 x 5" and has a turquoise lip wrap that accentuates the fluidity of both pieces.

Tiger Lily Seaform Pair is complemented by a 110-page clothbound book, Chihuly Seaforms. This volume includes forty-four full-color reproductions of this series and contains insightful essays by art critic Joan Seeman Robinson and author and oceanographer Sylvia Earle.

Ocean Macchia – 2002
   Dale Chihuly
   approximately nine inches in height
   retired

The Macchia proved to be one of Dale Chihuly's most challenging series, pushing preconceived notions of good taste, as well as the limits of color and scale. As the artist composes and manipulates the medium, colors are added, layer upon layer, making it possible to create works that are mottled and blazing with color Ocean Macchia is a beautiful example of this flamboyant series. Small chunks of colored glass called "jimmies" are fused onto the surface, and a bright orange body wrap threads the surface in a continuous line, enhancing the fluid contours of this blue-green vessel. A cobalt blue lip wrap elegantly outlines the opening of this handblown piece. This Studio Edition measures approximately nine inches in height and is signed by Chihuly.

This Studio Edition is accompanied by the book "Chihuly alla Macchia". This fifty-four-page publication features an essay by art historian Richard Hobbs and a beautiful selection of images from Chihuly's Macchia Series.

Citron Basket – 2002
   Dale Chihuly
   approximately six inches in height
   retired

Citron Basket, with its subtly expressive form and vivid hue, is a refined example of Chihuly glass. "To watch Chihuly and his teams at work is to behold the technical and artistic redefinition of a medium," said Patterson Sims, director of the Montclair Art Museum. The superb grace and delicacy of the glass medium are apparent in Dale Chihuly's Basket series. The artist's Baskets are allowed to respond freely to gravity in their molten state, so they slump and wrinkle, giving them a unique sensuality.

A fascination with fluid, visceral form and uninhibited use of color inspired Chihuly's Citron Basket. This asymmetrical, brilliant yellow-green vessel embodies the light and malleable quality of Chihuly's Basket series. A cobalt blue lip wrap encircles the upper portion, emphasizing its sleek surface. Approximately six inches in height, this beautiful handblown Studio Edition is signed by Chihuly and presented in a Plexiglas display case. Completing the ensemble is our hardcover publication, "Chihuly Baskets" a 164-page monograph with two essays and seventy-three beautiful photographs of Chihuly Baskets.
