Seattle's Borges among photographers honored with lifetime awards

Phil Borges of Seattle will be among the photographers receiving lifetime achievement awards Sunday in Los Angeles as part of the first annual International Photography Awards.

Borges, 60, is receiving the Humanitarian Award for his longtime work in the Third World, including Tibet, and for his two-year-old photo initiative called Bridges that links schools and students around the globe (see accompanying photo from Peru).

Among the other recipients of lifetime achievement awards (called "Lucies") are lens stars Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ruth Bernard, Annie Leibovitz and Mary Ellen Mark.
