Press Release

Earthland
September 9 - October 2, 2004

The Diane Farris Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Dr. Roberta Bondar, Canada's first woman astronaut. Bondar's sensitive photographs of Canada, especially the far North, are shaped by her training as physician, scientist, and astronaut and inspired by her poetic soul. Her work explores he depth and beauty of our natural environment. Included in this exhibit are a view from space and panoramic landscapes played off against intimate details of plant life.

From the vast terrain viewed from outer space to the smallest detail of plant life, her images are suffused with the colours of earth, sky, water, foliage, fog and ice. They remind us that the land is strong and eternal, while our own passing is small and brief.

Dr Bondar will be in the Gallery on Saturday, September 11th from 1-4 pm to greet the public and sign her books, which will be available for sale throughout the exhibition. Children with parents are invited to visit from 4-5 pm.
