Public Installations

Under the Shadow of a Big Tree was installed in December 2009 in Tamarac, Florida and dedicated February 11, 2010. It is the focal point of a public park dedicated to a fallen police officer. The park is located between the vibrant urban community of Tamarac and the lush tropical Everglades.

The Dress, the Voice, the Bachelor's Coat and a fourth element called The Book have been installed on the entry plaza of the Oregon State Data Center, in Salem. Oregon's storehouse of information becomes a rational partner for this lyrical group of stone, steel, and wood sculptures. The Book bears a close relationship to the function of the place, while the rest of the images beg a more personal interpretation.

Averbuch's Avanim Vetseiadim (Stones and Steps) was installed in Leawood, Kansas as the centerpiece of a new public park. A massive stone ladder appears to stand nimbly on the surface of a pond. In this work Averbuch connects between the "sea of the unknown" which we search to understand, and our desires to reach out for more than what we have. The combination reflects the human condition and, literally, a reflection of one element in the other - the ladder grows out of its reflection created in the water. Stone and water, opposite elements of this work, seem to create a dialogue.

Landmark (The Crossing) stands at the entrance of the Camelback Transit Center in the new light rail system of Phoenix, Arizona.  Unveiled in an event December 6, 2008, Landmark is a 24-foot ring of granite through which abstract figures pass in an endless march. The image suggests a timeless gate framing the entrance of the transit center, which is a primary entry point of a system that never really stops. Following this sculpture, there are two smaller sculptures on the rail platforms of the station. These each have integrated seating and a granite trough that drips water into the bed of a single shade tree.
